Finding a Verse

We've got an empty space in the school room we'd like to fill.

This space...

The top stripe above the map.

We'd like to fill it with a Bible verse that says something about our family. So I asked the girls for suggestions. They were quick to respond.

And I loved the verses they chose. So much so that I need to find more empty space to put the other ones. Because I think we need them all.

Ashley picked 2 Corinthians 3:15, "And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again."

So much love packed into that verse. A savior that redeems, a love that was willing to die for us, a purpose for our days here on earth. Ashley strives daily to live for others, to show the love of Christ to those around here. I think she's good at it. Her verse, so much said in so few words.

Hannah went with Jeremiah 24:7, "And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart."

Hannah longs for a heart to know God. She wants to know His heart and she wants her heart to follow after His. Because He is her God and she follows Him with her whole heart.

Amy's verse was Proverbs 28:20, "A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent."

What a reflection of her past two years. This verse speaks volumes to the progress she has made. She is learning that faithfulness to do what's right is what leads to real blessing and that her quick fixes and cut corners only lead to trouble. I love that she chose this verse. I love that it reminds all of us to stay the course and be found faithful. I love that she's learning to do just that.

Such depth I found in those verses. I loved how each of my girls spouted off a verse that has become a standard for them. Whether it's Ashley living to look like Jesus or Hannah seeking to know the heart of God or Amy learning to be faithful in the daily tasks of life, I love that they had a verse to share, not a verse we had studied together either, but rather a verse that they had read on their own, meditated on in their hearts and applied to their lives.

We do a lot of math and reading and history and science around here, but listening to my girls discuss these verses, well, that's what real learning is all about.

My verse is Colossians 3:23-24, "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

And everyday I try to serve him with my whole heart, in everything I do. I often fail, but I try to never lose sight of who I am serving.

Thankful for the opportunity to serve Him and thankful to watch my girls grow in the grace and knowledge of Him by my side. Everyday.

Wow! What a testament to the teaching they've received...beyond the science and math and reading. What a blessing you have in these girls!
