Today we were all struggling a little bit. Some more than others.
I may have been the worst. Maybe.
By 2:30 this afternoon we had survived far too many meltdowns and more than our share of grumpy attitudes.
So we stopped what we were doing and headed outside.
That's what we did. Amy picked up sticks, Ashley mowed the back yard. Hannah trimmed with the weed eater. I mowed the front yard.
It took a little over an hour.
When we made our way back into the house, people were smiling and joking and laughing. I was thankful for the change.
Funny what a little fresh air and exercise can do.
Sometimes I send them to ride bikes or walk to the store for a snack. Something to get them up and moving around.
Amazing how quick the turn around can be.
I try not to let grumpiness sour our day. I try to catch it before it's gone too far, before things have been said or actions taken that go beyond just trying to regroup and into the area of correction or discipline.
Sometimes keeping an eye and ear out at the start can help a struggler turn the tide before it's too late.
And it's not always the kids. Sometimes it's me.
